Digital Distribution Center (DDC)

Digital Distribution Center (DDC) was founded in 2007 with the objective of developing and supporting projects for legal distribution of digital content on the Internet.

The KnigaFund electronic library is part of the DDC business operations. The library was established in 2008 for legal storage, distribution and protection of the digital courseware for higher educational institutions. KnigaFund engages in digitalizing of study aids and makes them publically available on their www.knigafund.ru website. The intellectual property rights remain with the original owners in their entirety. In 2009, President Medvedev recognized the project’s success and instructed the relevant departments to speed up implementation of the electronic library in all Russian higher schools.

Over its three years in business, DDC Ltd managed to establish long-term partnership relations with over 80 Russian publishers and popular foreign book industry players. As of September 2010, www.knigafund.ru had over 42,000 titles available in digital format. Every month, 1,500 – 2,000 new publications are added to the existing KnigaFund collection. Today, KnigaFund has become a repository for several thousand publications, including lectures, monographs, manuals and study aids, collections of articles, educational modules, specialist reviews, original source documents and tutorial materials. The library has many user friendly features and includes full text versions of publications, a handy search engine and a classifier, as well as an enhanced text processing toolset.

Tatknigafund is a separate DDC project. Tatarstan is the first region in Russia to have implemented a nationwide electronic library. Tatknigafund has brought together major library funds and book archives in Tatarstan. The project is carried out under supervision of the President of Tatarstan and is quite innovative as it provides access to literature in the Tatar language.

BestKniga.ru, an online e-book store, is the third area of business pursued by DDC Ltd. According to the plan, the e-book store catalog will include 30,000 publications covering various areas of knowledge and genres. In addition to downloading files for a small fee at the bestkniga.ru website, the users have an option to read and purchase books on a related knigafund.ru website. The BestKniga readers are provided with free access to publications at the KnigaFund electronic library.
All the books at the bestkniga.ru website are distributed in compliance with the Russian copyright law and neighboring rights legislation. The project developers show equal respect both to the readers and the copyright holders. For those authors who have apprehensions about unauthorized access to their works, BestKniga suggests placing their writings using a specially protected format where small additional features help users to gain access to exclusive books that cannot be found in any other online bookstore. Bestkniga.ru uses Fb2 and SPDF formats. Payment is accepted via SMS, YandexMoney, bank cards, electronic payment, or instant payment system terminals.

DDC Ltd. sees its mission in distribution of legal digital content using the latest technologies. The growth of the e-book segment and evolution of electronic libraries are in direct proportion to increased consumer demand. The use of innovative technologies in the education system comes in the wake of the latter’s transition to a qualitatively new level and will secure its integration with the global educational environment.
DDC enhances communications between the content consumers and suppliers. The content is reliable and access to information is easy, fast and convenient.
