The founder of VKPM, the first president of the Russian Academy of Radio (RAR), and the vice president of NAT (National Association TV & Radio Broadcasters) by radio, Alexander Varin died suddenly and unexpectedly on December 2, 2009, at the age of 45.

He was a true leader of the Russian radio broadcasting industry – strong, unique, devoted to his business personally, sincerely professional, and nevertheless always a person with a warm and generous soul. Alexander Varin created an effective radiobroadcasting holding – VKPM – that included not only Moscow stations like Avtoradio, Radio ENERGY, Radio Alla and Humor FM, but their regional affiliates as well. He took part in developing and personally lead many VKPM projects. As the president of RAR, Alexander Varin defended the interests of radio broadcasters at all levels, including in the process of regular meetings with representatives of executive and legislative authorities.

He was valued and respected not only by his colleagues in VKPM and the Prof Media holding, but also by the biggest names in show business, famous performers, athletes, politicians, representatives of international professional organizations, and every single one of his competitors.

“Today the whole radio community pays due to the services of Alexander Varin, and his immense personality. Each one of us has in ourselves a part of his enormous soul and kind heart. I believe that if Alexander Varin can see us now, he is certainly proud of us,” said Yuri Kostin, president of VKPM.
